Turn receipts into a CSV file
Typing receipts into a spreadsheet is slow and easy to get wrong. Bulk Receipt Scanner reads them for you: photograph the receipts, check what was read, and download a CSV that opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or any accounting tool that imports spreadsheets.
Several receipts fit in one photo (up to 8), and one bulk batch takes up to 15 photos, so a whole stack becomes one file in a single sitting.
Three CSV files, for three jobs
Every plan, the free one included, can download all three.
1. The general spreadsheet file: one row per receipt
Columns: Date, Vendor, Subtotal, Tax, Total, Category, Payment Method, Receipt Number.
Dates are written year first (2026-10-20), which sorts correctly and imports cleanly into spreadsheets and databases in any country. Use this file for a monthly expense sheet, a tax folder, or handing your receipts to a bookkeeper.
2. The line-item file: one row per item
Columns: Date, Vendor, Total, Category, Item, Quantity, Unit Price, Line Total.
Each item on each receipt gets its own row, with the receipt's date, vendor and total repeated beside it so you can filter and total by item. Use it to see what you actually bought: materials for a job, supplies for the office, the personal items on a mixed receipt.
3. The QuickBooks-ready file
Columns: Date, Description, Amount.
This is the three-column layout QuickBooks Online accepts when you upload transactions from a file. Dates are month first, the vendor goes in the description, and a purchase's amount is negative, because a receipt is money going out, while a refund's is positive; that is how QuickBooks tells an expense from a deposit. On a paid plan you can skip the file entirely and send receipts straight into QuickBooks with the image attached.
How it works
- Add your photos. Take them with your phone's camera, choose them from your camera roll, or drag them onto the page on a computer. iPhone photos (HEIC), JPEG, PNG and WebP all work.
- Check what was read. Each receipt shows its vendor, date, totals and line items beside an image of that receipt alone. The scanner checks the arithmetic (line items against the subtotal, subtotal plus tax against the total) and flags anything that doesn't add up, so you know which receipts to look at. Fix any field by hand, or reread one receipt.
- Download. Pick the file you want. From your receipts list you can also search, filter by category or job, or use a filter such as This month, $100+ or Needs review, and export just that set, in the order you're viewing it.
Opening the file in Excel or Google Sheets
- Excel: open the downloaded file, or import it from the Data tab to choose how each column is read. Dates and amounts come in as dates and numbers.
- Google Sheets: File, Import, Upload, then choose to replace the sheet or append to it, so you can keep adding a month at a time to one sheet.
- Numbers on a Mac: open the file and it becomes a table.
Free-text fields that begin with a character a spreadsheet could treat as a formula are written so they show as plain text. A vendor name can never run as a formula in your sheet.
Why not just type them in?
- Speed. One photo can hold up to 8 receipts. Typing them takes longer than checking them.
- Fewer mistakes. Transposed digits are the classic data-entry error. Here the arithmetic is checked on every receipt, and anything that doesn't add up is flagged rather than buried.
- The receipt stays attached. Every row comes from a receipt you can open again in your account, with its image, if a number is ever questioned.

Questions
Is the CSV free?
Yes. All three CSV files are available on every plan. A free account includes 20 photos a month, and you can try one scan without an account.
Can I export to Excel directly?
The files are CSV, which Excel opens directly. There's nothing to convert.
Can I get line items, not just totals?
Yes. The line-item file has one row per item, with quantity, unit price and line total.
Which date format does it use?
The general and line-item files write dates year first (2026-10-20). The QuickBooks-ready file uses the month-first format QuickBooks expects.
Can I export only some receipts?
Yes. Search or filter your receipts list (by category, by job, or with a filter such as This month, $100+ or Needs review) and export just what's showing.
Does a team get one file for everyone?
On the Team plan, the admin can export everyone's receipts together, with a column showing who scanned each one.
