AI Data Processing Notice
Last Updated: August 2026
1. How AI Processing Works
- You upload a photo of one or more receipts
- We send it to a third-party AI service
- The AI extracts the receipt data (vendor, date, amounts, line items)
- We return the structured results to you for review and editing
2. Which Providers We Use
Bulk Receipt Scanner currently uses Google (its Gemini service) to process receipt images. We may use other AI providers — for example Anthropic or OpenAI — or self-hosted/open-source models, and this policy applies the same way to any of them. We may change providers at any time to improve accuracy, cost, or reliability. Regardless of which provider is used, the limitations below apply.
3. What We Cannot Guarantee
- Privacy: We cannot guarantee that AI providers keep your data private
- Security: We cannot control their security measures
- Data use: They may use your data to improve their models
- Retention: We don't control how long they keep your data
- Access: We cannot prevent unauthorized access to their systems
4. What's Safe to Scan?
Safe to Scan
- ✅ Everyday purchase and expense receipts
- ✅ Vendor names, dates, and totals
- ✅ Itemized line items
- ✅ Business and reimbursement receipts
Think Twice Before Scanning
- ❌ Documents with full payment card numbers
- ❌ Government IDs or Social Security numbers
- ❌ Medical or legal records
- ❌ Anything you wouldn't want a third party to see
5. Your Choices
- You decide what to upload: only scan what you're comfortable sending to a third party
- Review before saving: you can review and edit every extracted receipt
6. Understanding the Risk
Think of AI scanning like this: when you scan a receipt, you're showing it to a third party. Assume that anything you scan could potentially be seen by others. If that's not acceptable for a particular document, don't scan it.
